A LITTLE HISTORY An Elizabethan charter granted a market to Truro, leading to the establishment of the first Market Inn in Middle Row.This was demolished during the 1790's to make way for the present day Boscowan Street, but, it was not until 1847 that the massive new market building was opened and there is a record of our first landlord Joseph Greenwood at the adjoining Market Inn, in Back Quay. The many licensees over the years reflect a bygone age, where in 1888 our landlord George Hardy could be fined for “Furious driving at 10 mph in Falmouth” and 5 years later for allowing “Drunkenness at the Market Inn”. He was followed by Gerald and “Ma” Shaw who served behind the bar from the 1920's to the 1960's when she was 100 years old. Today’s M.i Bar offers you all the style and comfort of the 21st century with the traditional welcome and service you can expect from our Grade II listed Cornish Inn. |
